Your 2012 New Year’s Resolutions

It’s that time of the year where you look at all the areas of your life that could use improvement and set some goals. Of course, you have the obligatory eat better, lose weight, learn to play the trombone, etc. However, one area that’s often overlooked is your professional skill set. A good friend/colleague of mine, Danny Patterson, once said: We often spend so much time cutting down trees that we forget to sharpen the axe. While he might not … Continue reading

Slides from the October MN.swf Meeting

We had another great MN.swf meeting.  Adam Zucchi started things off talking about his mobile development experience and showed a lot of techniques he used to overcome some obstacles (showed lots of code too!).   Then Zara Gonzalez talked about her lessons-learned with four super cool mobile applications (also displayed her obsession with monsters…hehe). I ended the meeting with a lightning round of announcements from Adobe MAX.  My slides were packed full with links to more information. Here’s the slide deck … Continue reading

Two Videos: Creating custom Adobe Connect 8 pods

I’ve just finished two videos on creating custom pods for Adobe Connect 8 using the Collaboration Builder SDK.  Both Part 1 and Part 2 are posted to our Videos section. Part 1 demonstrates how to get started building a custom pod with Flash Builder and the Flex 3.5 framework.  This is great for developers because Flex is a fantastic framework to use for development.  However, Flash users are left a bit in the dark because not only do you need … Continue reading

ActionScript2 pods in Adobe Connect 8

It’s recommend you use the Flex 3.5 SDK to build custom pods.  This article is meant to show you a way hack you can use to make your AS2 content sync in an Adobe Connect 8 meeting room.  For more information on building a “real” custom pod, download the Collaboration Builder SDK from the Adobe Connect Developer Center.  Stay tuned … Continue reading

Flash Builder 4.5 and the new Flex SDK

If you haven’t heard, Creative Suite 5.5 was just announced.  With it came another exciting announcement: Flash Builder 4.5.  Not only is the Eclipse-based development tool pumped full of new features, but it will ship with an updated SDK.  Below is a look at some of the exciting new features both in Flash Builder and in the new 4.5 SDK.  The features list includes links to additional resources.  We’ll be posting some video too so you have no excuse for … Continue reading

Flex font issue in ToggleButtonBar

When you are styling Flex components, fixing font issues can be one of the most frustrating and time-consuming tasks. A classic example is changing the ToggleButtonBar component font.  Conventional wisdom would tell you to write a little CSS: ToggleButtonBar { fontFamily: "Knowledge Black"; fontSize: 12; } However, this yields some funky looking text: The reason is because the ToggleButtonBar has a default button style which tells the font to be bold. The “Knowledge Black” font does not have a “bold” … Continue reading
