Fans of the perennial Flashbelt conference in Minneapolis have already learned there will be no conference this year. Here’s the official message from the Flashbelt website:
Flashbelt is taking a sabbatical for 2011, but a new event has been launched. If you like Flashbelt, you’ll love the Eyeo Festival.
While we’ll all miss this fantastic conference, a new event has emerged to fill its void. The Eyeo Festival will be making its debut June 27-29, 2011 in Minneapolis. What’s the Eyeo Festival? Here’s a blurb from the site:
eyeo brings together the most creative coders, designers and artists working today, and shaping tomorrow – expect an amazing three days of talks, labs, demos & events fueled by the people and tools that are transforming digital culture. converge to inspire.
In a nutshell, the Eyeo Festival is an evolution from Flashbelt. This doesn’t mean Flashbelt is gone, it’s just taking a break. You’ll see many of the same presenters from Flashbelt presenting at Eyeo. Dave Schroeder of Pilotvibe has done a fantastic job with Flashbelt; recruiting some of the most exciting presenters in the world. Many of these presenters are still pushing digital culture, but in a medium not exclusive to Flash. Eyeo was a natural step to maintain the momentum of Flashbet, while encouraging new and innovative content.
Tickets will be available starting in February. If you are already on the Flashbelt mailing list, you’ll hear about it. Here are a couple other ways to stay in the know:
